Baghdad Business School (BBS) Launches Annual Giving Campaign to Support Class of 2026.
BBS offers a one-year intensive program in Business, Professional English, and soft skills, designed to equip young Iraqis with the knowledge and expertise necessary to thrive in the private sector. Since its founding, BBS has graduated five classes totaling 200 students, with an impressive 94% of graduates securing employment in the private sector and 15% becoming entrepreneurs or business owners.
The Class of 2026 includes 36 young Iraqis, 44% of whom are female. These students are recent university graduates from diverse academic backgrounds, united by their goal to gain the skills needed to excel in Iraq’s growing private sector.
Among the new cohort are five student-entrepreneurs with businesses ranging from logistics solutions to marketing to e-commerce. One standout student, Zahraa founded a nursery and event hall rental business for children, created to address a gap in Iraq’s childcare market. Zahraa joined BBS to enhance her business skills and better manage her startup.
Other students aspire to careers in key sectors such as accounting, banking, telecommunications, and marketing. Hussein, for example, joined BBS and started working at the National Bank of Iraq immediately to build expertise in the banking sector for a career in this high-demand field. Additionally, some students are already employed—such as a barista in a modern local café and an accountant at a local company—while others are seeking to begin their careers.
“During my 15 years working in higher education in Iraq, I have witnessed the transformative power of quality education,” said Christine van den Toorn, founder of Baghdad Business School. “Students come into BBS unable to write a professional email and leave with job offers from leading companies or with their own businesses. Their success drives positive change for Iraq’s economy and society.”
BBS invites individuals, organizations, and companies to support its mission by contributing to the Annual Giving Campaign. Donations can be made toward scholarships, specific programs, or operational needs. Contributions can also be recognized publicly through naming opportunities on plaques, social media, and events.
